By reheating stale Canva templatesā¦
are you saving time? No. are you saving money? Maybe⦠in the short run (a big maybe).
Yet, SO many business owners and marketing directors insist on spending hours every weekā¦
š±ļø dragging elements, šØ toggling between colors, š and resizing images for different platforms.
It may feel like a safer option than hiring a pro⦠ā¦but itās actually the slowest and most costly way to make your brand invisible. š«„

š Let me break it down:
Instead of serving your signature dish ā the thing youāre great at that drives real ROI ā youāre spending hours on designs that arenāt actually moving the needle.
Meanwhile, your signature dish is drying out in the oven.
And maybe (another big maybe) DIY branding works for side hustles and very new businesses.
But once youāve hit a certain level of success, āyour brand needs to match the value you bring.
At a certain point, it hinders growth when key stakeholders are wasting time on mediocre design instead of focusing on their strengths that drive ROI.
Because a boring or copycat brand doesnāt just look bad ā it bleeds potential revenue.
Itās the silent killer of high-value customers.
Because people donāt say āyour branding sucks.ā
They simply forget it, ignore it, and move on to something else.
And then they don't buy.

š° Opportunity cost calculator
Think handling your own design is āsaving moneyā?
Letās test that theory:
1ļøā£ Track how many hours you spend each week on design. 2ļøā£ Multiply that number by your hourly rate. 3ļøā£ Multiply that number by 52 weeks.
Thatās your annual opportunity cost.
Thatās not just wasted time⦠thatās šø real money šø walking out the door.
Now, take that number and multiply it by your average profit margin (as a decimal ā 0.3 for 30%, for example).
If that number is less than the cost of outsourcing design, DIY is probably still your best move for now.
If itās more, youāre wasting real money by not delegating design to an expert.
If itās 10x more than the cost of an expert full-time designer (~$100K/year), youāre probably ready to hire a designer in-house.

āļø How NOT to fix this problemā¦
So many small business owners outsource their design needs by hiring a mix of freelancers on Fiverr and Upwork.
The results?
A waste of money. A waste of time. Designs that cheapen your brand.
This strategy isnāt effective because great branding isnāt just a logo here, a post there, and a last-minute website banner that ākinda matchesā and ālooks nice.ā
Itās consistency. Itās cohesion. āItās strategy baked into every bite of your brand.
Thatās why Iām never just a ādesignerā to my clients.
Iām a strategic partner.
Corben Wilson, Founder of Myles Thousand Financial, explains:
"His process wasnāt just about delivering what I asked forāit made me rethink what I truly wanted. The final result? A brand vision that feels sharper, more intentional, and completely aligned with my mission."
Because you donāt just need prettier posts and a sleek website.
You need a clear brand story, a cohesive identity, and a system that works across every platform, without you lifting a finger.
Itās the difference between fast food and fine dining.
